Respecting each other in marriage is important . However in this article I wish to focus on Ephesians 5:33, it states “However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband”. God’s desire is that we enjoy our Marriage and that means doing it his way which is respecting our husbands! Join me as we look at the ways we can show our respect.
Respect him with your words.
Make a decision to stop complaining about your husband and start paying him compliments by focusing on what he does well. Compliments are like magnets and the more you compliment your husband the more he will be attracted to you. Find something, anything, to compliment him for.
Respect him by showing him you are on his side.
Use every opportunity you have to show him that you are on his side, if he has a problem it becomes your problem, too. Your husband needs this support and camaraderie to know you are with him and that he is not alone, even if he acts or it seems he does not need your support. Make a decision not to complain about your husband to others, show your children you respect him by standing by his decisions on disciplining them.
Respect him by involving him in your decisions
Men love to resolve problems and put things right, so make a decision to involve your husband in your decisions and ask him to help you solve problems when they arise. Lean on him in Spiritual matters too, ask him to explain a passage of Scripture or ask him to pray for you when you are going through a difficult time.
Men are very logical and are not led by feelings as women are, show them facts and they will be more receptive and likely to listen. Going along with his decision shows your love and respect.
Respect him by dreaming with him
Get into your husband’s world by dreaming with him, are there things he has shared with you but due to the demand of everyday life, he is no longer talking about them, remember women are incubators, ask him about them, and remind him. Listening to him sharing his dreams and believing in him sends a message that you respect him.
Respect him by asking him what he wants you to do for him
Find out what your husband’s needs are, ask him about what he would like you to do and then, do it. When our needs are met they make us feel loved and appreciated.
Finally, remember that Respect is both a verb and a noun: an action and an attitude so begin today to respect your husband in thought, word, and deed.
